Heirloom Handcrafts

Craftsmanship with future generations in mind

Bible box

A framed panel glued up and clamped.
Our neighbours’ Bible box coming together.

Our neighbours asked me to make them a box to hold their family Bible that will be passed from generation to generation. I couldn’t say no as this is what Heirloom Handcrafts is all about – future generations.

It’s made of clear pine (I love pine). The box is a straight-forward box with through-dovetails and a glued-on bottom. The lid is a framed panel put together using hand-cut mitred-bridle joints with a loose panel in slots made using a Stanley 45 multi-plane, which I use primarily as a plough plane.
